I've been looking to do this for a while. The only things holding me
back is the lack of nVidia support, but that's just me. I'll be putting
OpenBSD onto a laptop soon and seeing how many of my needs can be met
without having nVidia display drivers in place. It's just multimedia
performance tha
list?
Maybe Dave, or somebody with better knowledge on these matters, would
like to enlighten me on this? It just seems very strange to me.

I just installed bash to test this.
Then I created ~/.inputrc with the contents:
"\e[3~": delete-char
logged out of X, or log out if you are in console mode, and then
your del key will work as required.

It produced a tilde, prior to the reboot.
