It's the other way around. There's some ES2 hardware that can do OQ2
but not OQ. This extension was introduced for compatibility with some
future ES work, but ES has gone a diiferent route. I don't expect any
app will ever use this extension.

rendering immediately after the first sample passes the depth test and all

I wonder if there is hw that can do OQ2 and can't do OQ, for which it
might make sense.
