What I like about Apple Mail is that allows for both iMap folders and
"on my Mac" folders. What I do is I automatically copy all incoming mail
into "on my Mac" folders, so I have multiple backups:
(a) on the iMap server
(b) on my Mac
(c) in my Mac's backup system (though of course, this lags.)
Over the last week or so MailMate has become sluggish.
- unresponsive while checking email
- when opening a "reply", takes a 2-3 seconds before it lets me type
text into the reply mail
- takes 2-3 seconds to send a message, sometimes accompanied by the
beach ball.

What I've settled on doing is instead of using "Reply" I use "Forward as
attachment" with Markdown turned on, which you'll see maintains the
exact formatting of the original when displaying the attachment at the
bottom of the reply. Of course, you have to add the recipient again.
