I'm sorry if this has already been covered, but I'm frequently getting
errors sending messages. "Cannot decode response." Is that an issue with
my Gmail server, or a known issue with MailMate?

I'm looking for a way to make the right-most (message body) pane (in 3-pane
layout) show all messages in the thread, similar to how Apple Mail does it.

No, the best you can do is to tab
You can probably manage that with Keyboard Maestro rather easily.
