I have exactly one IMAP account: Fastmail.
Under Sources, I see Spam. I do not see Junk.
Under Mailboxes, I see Spam and Junk. Both of these are seen as Junk by
MailMate when I look at their Type.

Let’s first make sure that we are talking about the same junk folder.
You should see one for each of your IMAP accounts under Sources and also
one funder Mailboxes with submailbox for each of your IMAP accounts.
Which one are you referring to?

You can think of the folder MailMate calls Junk as a kind of overlay

It sounds like a local Mailbox Junk got assigned the type of Junk (or
Spam got renamed locally) and it is mapped onto the standard (for that
server) mailbox Spam on the server. In other words, it is the same
mailbox (folder as you call them), just named differently locally and on
the server.
OK - so my assessment is pretty much in agreement with what Bill said
earlier…
The server side is moving the message to Spam. Then, on the MlMt side,
you see this move occur in the Spam folder and because you also have a
local Junk folder - also mapped as Junk - it will mirror whatever is

I also forgot to mention that the Junk folder has no rules or conditions. It
simply mirrors the Spam folder, which Fastmail uses.
Okay to just delete it now?

Okay. Here's what I see.
I have a Spam folder on Fastmail server. In MailMate its Type is Junk.
I have a Junk folder in MailMate that is not on Fastmail server. In MailMate
its Type is Junk.
I now see identical messages in both folders. For some reason I didn't before,

So to recap (please correct any errors):
* There is a folder locally in MlMt called **Junk**; this same folder
does **not** exist on the Fastmail server.
* There is a folder on the Fastmail server called **Spam**; this same
folder does **not** exist locally in MlMt.
* SpamAssassin is running
An IMAP server normally should have a junk mailbox. Whether it is called
junk, spam, or else depends on the server. Have you checked in the
sources the mailbox types for the source mailboxes? It is an item in the
popup menu when you right-click on one of the folders in a source. You

But Fastmail has its own folder for that. It's called Spam. And it did not put
it in that folder.

I'll let you know if that verbiage is there on the next one I find in the junk

Ahhh - ok - at least that part is solved. So not sure if that might
trigger a move - I don’t think it would but it might - or there could
be a bug.
Can you find any Junk messages that do **not** have that same verbiage?

I may just uncheck that image checking box and see if that stops all this.

Are you sure it isn’t server-side filtering?

Ahhh - I believe that regardless of what the SpamSieve setting is, that
when image checking is enabled, it will always check for spam. I could
be mis-recollecting here but either way, I will do some digging to see
if I can find a reference about this…

I have no Inbox rules at all. Here are the Sieve relevant lines in the raw

Well, with SpamSieve enabled, you can always re-eval the spam score on
any message. I’m not sure if this menu option still exists after
disabling SpamSieve but I believe it does.
That aside, you can always check for rules on the Inbox - are there any

I did a quick mailer archive sear
I already moved it out of the Junk folder, so its Sieve score isn't seen
