icon tells you

Open Mailmate's Preferences, and choose the Counters panel. On the left, select
each corner in turn and make sure "in menu bar" is unchecked.

There’s simple way to much clutter up there …
Anyway, I switched off all counter preferences in the preferences pane - not
working the green button is still there
I remove the green counter button with cmd-key - not work
