then it downloaded lot of file and
when I restarted the system it got hang with a dialog box

did you gave "sudo apt-get upgrade -d" ? Unity will be released only by
tomorrow, isn't it? Now its there only in development branch.

are u getting the ubuntu login screen ? Then you can select the
classic interface from there

Wow! That was really not what I expected to happen.
Anyway, you should still be able to login through rescue mode. Also try all
the kernels listed in the boot menu.
But unfortunately I don't have much knowledge with the new Unity desktop.

$mplayer -dumpstream
There is an option -dumpfile to specify the file name.
