I would say you don't need anti virus software, I've had my mac for
over a year and have not had any problems. Of course, the best defense
against that kind of thing, on any operating system really is good old
fashioned common sense.

Hey mark, yes, the preview pane can be a bit annoying. This should get
rid of it. Move the voice over cursor past the messages table and it
should say horizontal splitter. Now press v o command f5 to move the
mouse to that spot. Then, double click the mouse on the splitter, you
need to act
Voice over does do much more analysis of the pages now, so that could
be what is happening. Also, if you have the option to automatically
speak the web page summary enabled, you might try disabling that.

utility to automatically interact with items when tabbing to them, you
might try unchecking that. Gmail and google reader are useable, but
the design of these pages is very nonstandard. You need to press v o

when attempting to interact with an item. Here is a way to tell if its
working. Turn on keyboard help with v o k, then press the v o shift
space command, see if the description voice over provides is the right
one.

I just tried this with a 2009 mac mini running lion, it worked in mail and text
edit, though voiceover was much less responsive, but it was better than snow
leppard, anyone running lion on a mini may want to try this and see how it
works a bit more.

This probably connects to the thunderbolt port, I don't think you can use most
adapters in the hdmi port, it's just for high definition.

I use carbon copy cloner also. About the only advantage time machine might give
you is hourly backups of your files that have changed, this might be useful if
you make frequent changes to documents or something similar. Otherwise, there
is probably no need to use them both.
