Yes, my opinion is not to try Big Sur given the 8 GB of Ram.

Speaking personally?
It depends on where you are in the world, but I would first call
1-800-my apple.
I would speak to support, share our apple id so they can know more details
and ask for my options.
Then perhaps report that here.
There are often loads of ways to upgrade a mac, or that used t
we have an actual Apple store here in Fort Worth, Tx. I don’t think you can
just call and talk to somebody though. within the next few months it appears I
might have the opportunity to get a new Mac mini. if that chance comes up I’m
not going to waste it that’s for sure.

If you call my-apple, part of what they can do is set up a genus session

major customer service hub in Austin Texas.
Still, if you anticipate a new machine soon, perhaps waiting makes more
sense in general. Unless the me
Where it can get tricky is that not all Apple Stores are able to handle Macs.
The new machine would definitely be your best bet. If you do end up upgrading
your machine, you will probably have to buy the Ram from Crucial and then
someone can install it for you. Bestbuy is also an option.

I believe Lori has a 2014 Mac mini. I do not believe the RAM or storage can be
upgraded on that model.
Getting a new M2 Mac mini would be her best option, and a big leap forward in
performance for her.
