One work around is to paste the link into a plain text document in TextEdit and
then copy it into an email, message, or whatever you need. When you open
TextEdit, press Command-Shift-T to toggle between rich and plain text and vice
versa.

Is there just one version of the Alex voice? If I trash it then go
back and check the voices list there is Alex at 800 something mb. But it
is not listed in the speech rotor. After I download it, its about 955mb.

The link is there, but Apple Mail displays it as a titled link. You have to use
your left and right arrow keys, but you cannot make any modification's.
