Hi,
Today I was on hold on a phone call using my i phone 8 plus. After being on
hold for over an hour the phone suddenly went silent and I haven’t been able to
get it to make sounds or get vo to work! I was using lightning connected
headphones on the phone call so I could easily punch in numb
Hi Kate,
Did you try powering off your phone and restarting it? Perhaps that might clear
everything out and your phone will hopefully come back to normal.

Just a couple other suggestions. Try turning VoiceOver on and off, and try
turning up the volume to make sure that it didn’t accidentally get turned down.
Good luck,
Donna

I have experience situations when using my lightning connected headphones that
voiceover can get very very slow. Usually rebooting then plugging in the
headphones and unplugging headphones will reset this. Hopefully this is your
issue and you’ll find a quick resolution.

If the p hone isn’t talking, how can you tell if it’s rebooted?

that’s just it, I am getting absolutely no audible feedback! I’ve tried asking
siri to turn on vo, have triple clicked the home button, hit the up volume
button a bunch of times, etc, with no luck!
Argh!
Thanks,

Hi,
I experienced this as well but very rarely. Let’s hope Apple will fix it soon.

What did you do to fix it? My phone is basically a brick now. I really didn’t

Thanks for any help!

No, absolutely no Siri to speak of. It’s a brick. Now when I plug it into my
mac there is no response whatsoever. I am thinking about just leaving it for a
time, letting it drain the battery and replug it in tomorrow morning and see
what happens.
If it’s still like this I am going to try and
Hi,
Try plugging it into a wall charger instead. The wall charger block has more
output and might kickstart the phone.

Hello,
Many thanks for the tips on how to get rid of annoying notifications on
Monterey. I have now deleted them all! I could not replace the sensitive cable
connecting my time machine disk to my iMac as it is not a standard cable.
Many thanks and best wishes … Paul Hopewell

Hi Tim,
Also, I have found that plugging in the phone results in VoiceOver always
reading the log on screen as I have it set to do that by default. When I turn
on the phone without plugging it in, VO may not start talking the first time,
it will the second time.
Best,
Les

Hi,
Hmmm. Interesting. That should not be the case, but things don’t always work
as they’re supposed to.

in Safari on a Mac, how do you deal with a menu popup combo box? I've been
trying to use vo-space and not having much luck. maybe my mouse pointer isn't
where vo is.
thanks.

Occurs to me that you may have either damaged the lightning port, or there is
debris in the port that is fooling your iPhone into thinking there is still a
headphone connected.
Have you been able to clean the port, or made sure that nothing has broken off
inside the port?

Yes, I cleaned the port. As far as I can tell there is nothing blocking it.
The lightening connector looks normal to me..

Can you say where you are seeing this? I generally find "pop-up" used instead
of combo-box when working on my Mac. Also on web site these are often
specialized javascript implementations where the combo-box don’t always act
consistently.

Have you tried the reset procedure? It’s usually something similar to holding
down the power button for 10-15 seconds. The exact details can be found with a
Web search and may depend on the model of your phone.

So, I can’t tell if you follow the advice to reboot your phone or not. You know
turn it off and then back on again? You seem to be unsure about doing that. In
my experience it solves an awful lot of problems with the iPhones.

Hi Jason.
I tried closing Safari and then re-opening it again, but voiceover still
doesn’t see the page. I also restarted my phone a couple times and nothing
works. It’s like the page starts to load, and then it sounds like it’s
finished loading a couple seconds later. Its like Voiceover isn’t
On the iPhone 8/8+, you can initiate a hard restart as follows:
1. Press the Volume Up button, followed quickly by the Volume Down button.
2. Now immediately hold down the Side button for about 20 - 30 seconds.
3. This should restart the device.

I am unsure because it’s not talking at all. This is why I have no idea if it
rebooted or not. I held down the side button for a time, double tapped the
screen, then waited for a while. then I pressed the side button again for 5
seconds and waited. Still nothing. I will try what Brad sugges
