Definitely. VO also makes use of the extra voices for announcements onZoom when
you are not in the main window.

Are there any tweaks that can make it function the way it did under previous

I agree. The one big difference that I can recall is you cannot rely on VO J
but otherwise, it’s not that different.

Hi everybody. As far as general computer use and audio production, are
there any issues with big sur? I'm wondering if I should upgrade or
just hang tight with catalina for now.

If Catalina is working for you, then I'd stick with it for now. There are a few
annoying bugs in Big Sur that Apple has not resolved. While there are
workarounds to these bugs, I feel it would be much nicer to not have to deal
with Big Sur, until Apple resolve these issues.
That's just my opin

Many applications come with a file with a .PKG extension. That's a text
file inside of which are all the terminal commands for installing that
application. Some applications, though, are just a simple copy-and-paste
from the disk image (.DMG) into the Application folder.

So how would I open the pkg file? when I have tried this before, it just opens
into a regular installer and not something I could paste into the terminal..
I have a printer I want to install, but the normal installer keeps hanging.
wondering if I can get around this with the terminal..
Thanks
I agree. I upgraded to Big Sur, and I wish I'd just upgraded to Catalina
instead.

Hi Cameron,
I strongly suggest given how important your production tools are to your
work that you check with software supporters.
For example if any of those tools even slightly still need 32 bit access,
it will not be there.
I have radio production associates who have not made the jump for
Try using the installer command.

Since it sounds like Cameron is currently using Catalina, which does not
support 32-bit apps, this should not be an issue, one way or another.

It was just a possible example brad.
still, it seems the upgrade is ill advised regardless.

Just tried this and keep on getting errors. Do I have to type the entire path
to my applications folder instead of typing “target”?
Thanks in advance!

there is a major new limitation with Bigsur. All non apple kernal extensions
are blocked. So for example if there is dedicated dacs that require kernal code
to work than a new driver from the manufaturer would be required. The other
major change is that the entire core of the OS is in a read onl
Select "Open with" from the file menui and choose TextEdit.
And yes, you have to type the full path. And if your path has space in
it, be sure to prefix each space with a backslash, like this:

Hi everybody. Thanks for all the feedback everybody. I think I'll hold
off for now at least especially after what you noted Jonathan as I was
not aware of that fact.
I don't run anything 32 bit anymore but thanks kare for pointing that
out as that is a valid concern.

I’m not sure you have the sin-tax right. Try reading the command by word and

might be better to specify the target as LocalSystem rather than Applications.

I should point out that you can just copy the file from finder and paste it

Braille display support improved significantly with Big Sur (i.e., some
bugs were apparently fixed). In particular, it is less likely to skip
text while panning the display.
If this matters to you, then it's a reason to upgrade. I am not

HomeBrew may be of interest to you. It's as close as the Mac environment
