My method, using standard navigation (sorry, I'm typing on a Windows
box and don't remember exact names), is to type VO-Shift-F3 to turn
Cursor Tracking off, then navigate from the Edit box in a conversation

message? Usually, when I'm in the message table, I hit vo+j to jump
to a message I want to read. After I hit vo+j, VoiceOver usually
starts reading the message.

such as super duper or carbon copy cloner to back up your mac. The
cool thing about these programs is, you can then boot off the external
drive, and use all functions of the mac, even restoring back to your
internal drive

I find that which ever way you use to read email, regardless of the
method, in Snow Leopard, there are unnatural pauses, where Voice Over
pauses at the end of each line, making for a very disjointed reading
experience.
This did not occur in Lepoard.

You need to be in the "date" column of the messages table. This is
supposed to be a generic VO command to sort the order of any table. I
have tried it in Mail and column mode of the finder. I think I might
have tried it on a couple of other tables too.

stuff, and wait for the bugs to be worked out. Do you know if I buy it
