Ok, I give up. I keep returning to the clock menu to try to change my
time zone, and I keep failing to figure out how. It seems to be an
image of the world that VO can't deal with, so I'm stumped as to how
to find my time zone. What setting am I missing?
Thanks,

Hey Eliza,
I had to get my son to change the time zone as I couldn't
find a way with VO to change it so if you have one of those kind
sighted animals get them to fix it up for you unless someone has a
way that I couldn't find to change it.

Hi Eliza,
Try this:
In the Date and Time panel in System Prefs, select the second tab
named Timezone.
Navigate using VO until you hear "Closest city:" and write your city
in the combo box to the right. When I write Oslo, the rest is
automatically, and I can simply leave the panel.

I did try that, but because the wrong time zone is selected, when I
type in my city, it doesn't come up. What a trivial but annoying
quirk this is.

Hi,
Ok, have you tried to first select all (command-A) in the combo box,
then write the same wrong city, and then do the same and write your
own city? Just a suggestion, command-A can be a better solution than
using the delete key in such cases.
Take care,

Dean and Eliza, you sure can change the timezone with VO.
Simply type a city in your timezone in the edit field and there you
go.
If the one you typed in isn't recognized, then go for another one
closest you.
Once you have one showing up in the edit field simply click close

Just to reiterate, any city in your time zone will work. I just
verified this by typing in New York City to switch to EST and then
switching back to my beloved LA LA Land!and it switched
back to PST immediately.
Best of luck!…

hi all.
For some days ago some one asked me if espeak could be used as the
default voice on the mac so well can it ?
I am considering looking in too it to see what can be done about it.
I can see too ways 1 make it natively show up in the voiceover voice
selection or 2 make a hack around it.
You're talking about the combo box, right? I don't see an edit
field. When you type in the city, what exactly happens? It has me on
New Delhi time right now and won't switch. It showed New York City
(which is what I want) a couple of times, in which case I was placed

Oh, you know what, I got it to work finally. I thought I'd have to
select an ok button of some sort, so didn't think my changes would
hold if I just closed the window, but they do. Ah well, thanks for
the hint!

Greg agree.
But my main problem so far have been to find out where the voices are
selected.
I dont doubt i will find a way to make it work If ivox voices can be

We looked into it at Curtin but had to stop do to other issue here. We
did not get very far. The basic process is to make a sysnsisier for
each vendor of voices. There is sample code for doing this in the

Yep, there is a package on I believe the second DVD. I dont' have my
DVD handy, but I think it is in a folder called extras or optional
packages. You'll know it when you encounter it.

Hello,
Remember that in Mac OS X, there is a folder at /System/Library/Speech
that contains both synths and voices. You have to develop a synth
plugin, then place the voices in the same location. I've not seen docs
on how this is set up at this point, so I think it would be quite a

Perhaps I may have overlooked this feature, but exactly what is

Hi,
The opensource project ISpeak will hit the net on March 17. Keep tuned
in to VIPBC.org for the details. This is the project I am speaking of.
I invite anyone to join the project. All research will be posted for
the enjoyment of all participants, but as I said, stay tuned.
