HI Matt,
If you go into the mail, contacts, and calendars area of system preferences,
and go to the new accounts table, you can interact with that. then you'll find
buttons for twitter and facebook, and you log in with your credentials, then
you'll have access to those.

I had to reformat my whole mac, and trying to get it so that twitter and
Facebook notifies you. Is there w ay to do it again?
