FAT32 doesn’t work on flash drives. It has always been that way. Not sure if
this is a Mac thing, but I think it is the same on Windows.
Your choices are standard FAT, or Extended XFAT.
I’d go with XFAT because it will allow for larger file sizes.

On a Mac, go to applications/utilities and open the disk utility app. There you
can wipe your drive.

Hi,
When I used the word "wipe", yes, that is the same as erase. So, go into Disk
Utility on the Mac, locate and select the USB stick, then erase it. FAT32
should be fine, or EXFAT would work as well.

Hi,
Format your USB drive and don't use quite format for this. Also go to the
properties and adjust it for best performance, rather than quick removal.
And hopefully this will fix the problem.

Hi,
How often are you replacing files on this device? If often, and you are
adding, deleting, emptying the Trash lots, then this often happens. I suggest
you use Disk Utility to wipe the drive again which should get rid of directory
structure issues that may be slowing things down.
