It is under settings, General, keyboards, and then there is a list of things
that you can turn on under there. And I'm one of them is auto correct.

I've never seen a text disappear either. When you were viewing it, was it from
within the Messages app, or on the Locked screen, or as Lois mentioned, a
notification alert that popped up while you were busy doing other things on the
phone?

Did you check your notifications to see if it possibly was a notification and
not a text. I have never known a text to disappear. Just a thought.
