the fault is to do with the speech server.
If you have as an example, settings enabled to announce background app
messages, etc, the speech server trips your reading text. this can sometimes
hang. the only way to handle it as you say is to quit and restart voiceover.

This happens to me occasionally in TextEdit, and I hadn't noticed it until the

I have written them on several occasions. And they have always given me pretty
much the same reply, saying that they have forwarded it to the proper people.
So just because they don't reply, doesn't mean that aren't working on it.

I have seen this in a couple of the apps i use. How often does this happen?
For me, it doesn't happen often, but when it does, I have to press comand f5 3
times to get VO to come back.
