right after I wrote in asking what the roter was on the mac, I had a light bulb
moment and went to the track pad! Don’t know why I didn’t think of that
before, but thanks, this does help a bunch!

Ok, I use the trackpad for this, since I’m am more used to the IOS editing.
If you turn on trackpad commander you can use rotor to select character, word,
line, etc. when you interact with a text you can select one of the rotor
options and use the down arrow. So you can skip by character, word,
