Hmm,
On the link you press to start playing the sample, try pressing VO shift M to
bring up the context menu. Try selecting open in another window. I haven't
tried this myself but, it might work.

Ok, I changed that setting in Safari, however the files continue to play inside
iTunes and the internet songs playlist is created.
Is there anyway where I can just sample a mp3 clip or whatever the case may be
inside Safari? No need to go over to my downloads folder?

I would go to Safari preferences and under general, unchecked Open “safe” files
after downloading. This is why the clipse are playing in iTunes. With this
off, you can just navigate to your downloads folder and press spacebar or
command Y to listen without adding the track to iTunes. Or,
