Ok, will check vlc out; I tried to install div-x, and the installer is
completely inaccessible at this point.
I can't get passed the point where it wants me to tell it where I want it
installed, what type of instalation I want, etc.

Two things you can do. 1) Try vlc it plays all my avi's. Also you may try
getting quicktime to search for items that will be able to play. I use one
called divix plus that I got through asking for quick times recommendations.

I've just downloaded several files that are in ave format, and my mac refuses
to play them. Does anyone know of an extention/secondary piece of software
that will play them, or am I just out of luck and will have to convert them to
