Very simple, never. I've never had a problem with it and the year and a half or
more than I have had the display/notetaker.

The Perkins many costs $1550 in the US. I have had mine for a year and a half
and absolutely love it. It works great with either devices and it also can be
used with jaws and a number of other screenwriters.

The Perkins many can be updated by putting the update file on them microSD card
or putting it on a thumb drive and connecting it to the unit and going to
update and it updates on it's own without windows

Nope, this is out of pocket. What went wrong with your seika/perkins display,
just curious.

this one is a small note taker too. It has a sd slot. I assume it can update

HIMS zips the files needed for updating, its not a Mac program.

Yes. Apple knows all about it. I am going to call them however before I return
it because the decision that I have a deadline for returning it was made
yesterday. Freedom scientific and Apple are trying to get their act together. I
hope they do. But if they don't, I'll get a different Braille d
Hi there
Just so you know, the Braille edge 40 will update using a Mac. I know cause I
just did it the last time. If you download using a Mac, it sends you the Mac
program. It works great.

Hi Kawal.
I have a focus 40 here, on one mac with mountain lion it works fine on another
not at all. It appears to be working on some computers and on others not.
Best regards Annie.

Hi Alia.
In fact I agree with you.
I have not seen the perkins mini, but as I remember it is seika displays, I had
an USB seika once, and that was a disaster, but hopefully things has changed.
Do you have any chance to apply some money through a foundation or something
else.
Best regards
I don't think any braille display will update unless you use windows. I wish
the manufacturers who manufacture Braille displays would let us update displays

Hi Gigi.
Ok I only thought that problem was some display and most the focus 40 on some
macs, thank you for correcting me on this one.
I do not like focus displays myself, because of apples changing keys, and the
fact that or some operations you need a windows computer.
The reason why I mention
How does the Focus 40 work under mavericks then? Are apple talking to Freedom
Scientific about this matter? You should ask Apple before you return your
device.

How much does it cost, and what's it like?

Hi again
Well, that sounds pretty good. You might also want to find out how you go about
updating this thing. I for instance, found out that the focus 14 needs windows.
No surprise there.

Hi guys
For those of you talking about the focus 14, I would like to caution you guys
about that one. It will not pair with a Mac at this time under Mavericks. I
have been told that this could change, but it won't work right now on my Mac,
it doesn't work really well with USB as well. It drives
I thought of that, but it can't store anything, and for reasons of my own I'm
not too happy with freedom scientific. thanks though.

Hi Alia.
You could probably go with a focus 14, it is nearly the same price.
Best regards Annie.

Yes, it's on the list, but am just not sure. It is practically the only one I
think I can afford, except the braille pen, and that one people say the currsor
routing buttons don't work with voiceover, and you also can't store things on
it. Just wanted some real world experience from a user. The
store files on it
separately from your computer or your phone. However, it can act as a braille
display as well for either my computer or my phone.

does anyone use the perkins mini? I am trying to find a fairly affordable
braille display, and I want one I can store books in without having to take my
phone or computer with me. this looks decent, but would love any input. thanks
all.

that I'd much rather go with the Braille Edge from Hims (40 cells, so more
expensive, but I'm really hoping for a 20-cell version).

Hi Everyone,
I'm curious to know if any of you have used the Perkins Mini Braille Display
with your iDevices? I have read about this display and might be interested in
getting one, but I'd love to get some information from someone who has actually
used one. Thanks!
