Try Function and down arrow to get page down and function up arrow to go page
up.

Actually, you do have Page Up, Page Down, Home and End on a MacBook Pro
keyboard. While holding down the VO keys, also press the FN key to access
alternative commands for certain keys. So, VO-FN-down is Page Down, VO-FN-up
is Page Up, VO-FN-right is End and VO-FN-left is Home.

Unfortunately, I am doing this on the mac book pro so I do not have a page down
or page up key.
Is there another workaround?

I find the easiest way to read a Pages document is to read a page at a time. I
use the VO-Page Down command to do this. You have to be interacting with the
body of the page for it to work.
