Well, that's the thing.
I don;t believe that the Appstore uses the "downloads" folder. That's why I am
asking.
Any way, will find out soon enough.

Applications purchased from the Mac App Store are installed in your
applications folder. I assume that Lion will be no different.

I would doubt this. Things bought via the Mac app store do not go to the
downloads folder. I assume Lion won't be different.
