You can access Rules from the Mail preferences section. You access it in the
Preferences toolbar. You will probably want to create a rule that says
something like: Criteria where If sender is somegroupaddr...@foo.com. And then
in the Perform action section, select delete message.

Which criteria are you using for your Gmail filters? They should definitely
work for situations like this, and in fact are your best bet if you’re a Gmail
user. Filtering at the server level will, in my opinion, be much more efficient
as your Mac won’t even have to process any mail that you want
