OK, I think I have this figured out.
1. Open Windows menu and select"Connection Doctor"
2. In the table select your Gmail Map account.
3. Below the table is a check box for connection logging, uncheck this.

Now another question. Ever since this mail episode I get a message that says
connection logging enabled. What is this and how can I get rid of it?
