It is my understanding that an E-SIM is secondary.
An iPhone requires a physical SIM card from your primary carrier.

It can be done without sighted help, you will a sim eject tool. The sim card is
very small so be careful not to drop it. They are about the size of a micro SD

The card will only go into the tray one way. You can’t put the sim in the
wrong way.
It is very tiny, so make sure you do everything over a towel or something like
that to help you keep track of the old and new sim.
