Yes, I would suggest using Onyx, there's also cocktail, it's not free
but it's pretty cheap and works very well.

There are some such apps, but, in my fairly educated opinion, you really don't
need them. The Mac either comes with the necessary apps stock, or there are
built-in background processes that keep everything running smooth.
