In follow up to my last message, I happily still have my deleted iBooks in
my trash, so I'd like to try and restore them to iBooks that way. I see the
numbered folders that contain each of the books. To what folder do

Instead of putting them directly back into the folder, either copy and paste
them to the Desktop then use the Add to Library feature under the File menu
within iBooks itself or try a VO-shift-m on the individual book from within the
Trash and see if there is the "Put Back" option.
