Thanks for that. I thought without interacting you could only go up and down,
but couldn't open new folders. I'm sure I tried it before without success. NOt
sure what I did wrong.
Anyway, that's a great tip and will save me some time. Thank you!

why interact and start using VO navigation commands at all? In column view, to
browse and open files/folders, this is not necessary. Just pressing the right
arrow will open a folder, left arrow closes the folder. Command O will open a
file or application.

Yes, this happens to me too, a lot.
I use column browser view in Finder. One time I notice it happening a lot is
when , say, I have a folder called Downloads and inside that folder a file
called Document A. I'll interact with the file browser and VoiceOver will
announce I am on Downlo
