I have now you've alerted me to the option. It still hasn't helped
though so I'd say it's one of those system specific issues that seem to plague
some apple machines. I've had other issues as well, esp since the last ML
update so this is probably just one more.

Yes. VO a only reads current page as well. Obviously something to do with text
edit. The documents are doc or docx so this may be why. I'll have to do more
experimenting but as all my course work is in doc format, not being able to
read entire document either from start or from current position
Maybe I missed something here, but did you try VO a?
