sorry, typo. The name of the file is com.apple.facetime.plist.

I did some digging online and it was indicated that getting rid of
com.apple/facetime.plist would do the trick. Well, it hasn't worked for me thus
far, unless there's another copy of it besides ~/library. I think the location
of this file varies. I didn't find it in /library/system configuration
Yes, I can make calls in Contacts, so FaceTime is on. I, too, lack camera, so I
wonder if that's the problem?

Hi,
I have the usual all, recents buttons, and then the table of all my recent face
time calls.
So whatever this problem is, it's not universal. I'm running 10.92 by the way.

Can you make a call through your contacts? If so, wonder if you could get into
preferences while making a call?
Just a thought.

I haven't tried to make a call from contacts, but as I recall Alex says he can.
No, for me, it doesn't matter whether Facetime is switched on or off; I still
get that same screen when I open it.

And I don't see a way in my preferences to tell it not to look for a camera or
I'd test it.

Wow that's weird. But did you say that you can make calls through your
contacts?
Can you do command-,(coma) from that blank screen? Just wonder if your
facetime has become deactivated somehow?
Just interested to see your results.

I have this problem too. No, Jim, it's a weirdness with Facetime interface that
causes it only to display a window with just the window controls and no scroll
area or list of contacts. I'm kind of wondering if it has anything to do with
not having a camera, which I don't, and the system is looki
That's just it, though: I have no contacts button. No radio buttons, no
toolbar, no scroll areas, just the close/zoom buttons and a (nearly useless)
menu bar.

Hey Alex!
In my face tie window I have the contacts button selected and then it gives me
a scroll area with a table of all my contacts. From there I can make an audio
of video facetime call.
Maybe I didn't understand your question.

How are you all doing this? My FaceTime app has absolutely nothing in the main
window except for the usual three buttons, and the menus only let me select my
microphone. Even the Preferences item is dimmed. FaceTime works, though,
because I can start calls from my Contacts app. What am i missing
I just made the edit to reflect the fact that you can place the call from the
FaceTime app. Thanks for the heads up.

No prob, tell you what though, you were right about deleting the
/Library/System Configuration/Facetime.plist file. Works like a charm now.

Can you enlighten the list as to how to do this? I looked all through the
FaceTime interface yesterday and I didn't see anything about making a FaceTime
audio call from there.

The poster is wrong about one thing. You can too make Facetime audio only
calls inside Facetime.

After updating to OS 10.9.2 yesterday the first thing that I wanted to try was
making an audio only call from my Mac. It took me some digging around to figure
out how to place the call and then when I did figure this out my call kept
failing.
After doing several searches on Google I stumbled ac
