adds a 1 to the name, so my capsule drive becomes capsule1.

Should have used Extended journaling. That is how I did it. I'd suggest
reformatting your external drive to this and try again.

Hi.
I formatted an external drive with Mac formatting with journaling. I then
attached it to my airport express, where both drives show up. Trouble is,
my Time Machine backups are failing and CCC says I can't do a bootable
backup on this drive because it doesn't support hfs plus formatting. Any
