have a mid 2010 MacBook and experience no lag. If you want to talk more about
this off list, you can. I'm not on the developer program, but I still get the
betas with the public seed program.

Have you checked in the Activity Monitor to see if anything is using up
resources? It sounds to me like some sort of third party app or resource in
