For now, instead of using cmd-space, try using cmd-f as in Find. It still uses
the Spotlight engine and looks like the result of the window that opens after
pressing return in the cmd-space dialog.

This is the process I used and it seems to work fine.
• Press cmd-space to bring up spotlight.
• Enter the thing I wish to search for, but don’t press return.
• VO-right to the table.
• Interact with it, then navigate to the very bottom. It should read something
about “Show All in Finder”.
Since upgrading to Yosemite, nothing seems to be working. Even a simple search
for something I know is on my computer in documents is not coming up. I keep
getting a “system dialog” box; my preferences are in order, but every search
renders one possibility only. There is no list. Should I be in
