Steve, when I unchecked documents under my icloud preferences, that
weird wizard did indeed go away. This also changed the default save to
documents folder, rather than icloud.
Now, here's the thing I wish would come back. When the save dialog
appeared, you used to be able to just hit command-d

Yes, I do it all the time. I have my files saving in the desktop, and I have
done this for quite sometime. You just tab around or press Bo right arrow
around. I have found that the VO Space is particularly bad in this particular
menu. However, the return key seems to work better. When
I'm not aware of any such wizard happening every time I open Text edit but then
again, I've left it running for some time so I have been just command-tabbing
into it. I haven't used the editor a lot lately so Haven't determined if there
is a way to change the default save directory.

This is one of two things that drive me crazy using Text Edit in
Mountain Lion. Frankly, I'm going to look at a different text editor. I
don't have any intention of saving my documents in icloud and since I
can't change that default, it's now a royal pain in the you know what.

If you want to save files into a different place other than icloud V O
space bar when it says icloud and arrow down to say documents then V O left
arrow till it says disclosure button unchecked and V O space bar to check it
then you have the ability to get to the side bar table

Can anybody explain to my why I can't save files in TextEdit? It seems like
the only place it wants to allow me to save files in is the iCloud. Any other
location I select it dims out the "save" button.
Any thoughts are much appreciated and welcomed!
