I use return instead of VO-j. This opens the entire conversation and reads the
first one in my stack. I then simply stop interacting with the current
message, VO-right and can go through each without deleting any of them.

In the message list, you can expand a conversation by using right-arrow. Also,
in the message content area, without interacting with the text, you can VO left
and right arrow, and VO will read the entire content of the focussed message to
you.
