Just a follow up to this..
I did try the window chooser and again, nothing happened.
Afraid to just power off the mac air, I let it sit there a little while, but
finally did power it off and waited about 30 seconds, turned it on again, and
when it came up, I again got the set up assistant, but i

Try the Window Chooser, VO-f2-f2, and see if focus was off in la la land.
There’s no good reason I can think of that should be causing that for you.
