The operating system will only install on a journaled drive. You could disable journaling and things might be a bit faster, but that's up to you. Original message: Funny you should mention that Mike. I just got my Mac back from the shop and they formated the drive to Journaled rather than Mac OS

Funny you should mention that Mike. I just got my Mac back from the shop and they formated the drive to Journaled rather than Mac OS extended Journaled. Should I be concerned about this? Am I necessarily loosing anything by this? and, one final point, if I wanted to reformast to extended Jou

If you selected the drive itself, which is what I did, you need to choose guid partition, and the format should be mac OS extended journaled. It provides a place to type in a name for your volume, if you don't type anything, it will call it untitled. I've done this process with all 3 of my macs
