Finder has never remembered my viewing preferences for as long as I can
remember now. I gave up long ago to get them right, and now simply set it up
one time for all the common folders I visit and hope for the best. If I land
in a view I don’t like, I press Command-3 and I’m back in column vie

The operating system will only install on a journaled drive. You could
disable journaling and things might be a bit faster, but that's up to you.

Thanks, Mike. I just upgraded, so I guess I'm about to find out whether I like

If you selected the drive itself, which is what I did, you need to
choose guid partition, and the format should be mac OS extended
journaled. It provides a place to type in a name for your volume, if
you don't type anything, it will call it untitled. I've done this
process with all 3 of my macs
Voiceover provides an option when for example, you move over a toolbar,
you don't have to interact with it, all of the items will be presented,
you then simply move to the next thing on the screen.

Hi Mike.
After listening to your podcast, I decided to do a clean install of el capitan
and I find that things run much better. I have how ever one question, When
doing the reformat, I selected the main drive not the macintosh HD partition
that was already and select ed. Should I have done so

Yeah, I am definitely a fan of the standard way of voiceover interaction.
Trying the new ways seems weird to me after being used to the standard way for
so long.
