I don’t think I ever had airpods. only had earbuds and I might have some still
around. I’ll have to check. I guess I could spring for some airpods. sounds
like they’re not too expensive.

Like I suggested, try using the 3.5mm EarPods that came with older iPhones.
If you don’t still have a pair of these, Apple still sells them for $19.
There are other options to consider, but many people still have these EarPods
around.

Actually, the 3.5mm jack on the back of your Mac mini is both a headphone jack,
and a microphone input.
It is designed to work with wired EarPods that used to come with iPhones.
If you still have some of those 3.5mm EarPods, they work very well with your
Mac mini or a MacBook Air or Pro.

You are right about getting the dongle or some kind of adapter that is if you
want to use those microphones that you presently have. It might be easier or
better to just get a hold of a USB microphone.
