Hi Earle,
If this is a recent iMac purchase, the answer depends on what your friend
bought. When you order an iMac on line, you can configure it with either a
full size wired keyboard that includes the numeric keypad or an Apple Wireless
keyboard. If the Apple Wireless keyboard was selected,
You have to go to your menu bar by pressing the shortcut key
combination of control+f8 or by pressing vo+m twice. There you can
check your battery status, date and time, bluetootth status, and the
keyboard layout. You can choose your keyboard layout there too. Hope
this helps. Simon

Hi Wendy,
•Open System Preferences
•Go to International
•Go to the Language to set your overall system language, and to Input
Menu to select what will show in your Status menu as optional keyboard
sets.

Hi Wendy,
Do you just want to change your keyboard layout from US to UK or your
complete language localization? Also, do you want to be able to
switch to a UK keyboard or make that your sole (default) keyboard?
The difference between just using a UK keyboard (and not a UK
localization)
