For me it does not as well. I need to wait about 30 secnd and hit cmd f5 as
well.
Take care all.

Really? As many times as I have installed the OS since Tiger, I have yet to
have VoiceOver come up talking on its own. I may have gotten an announcement
telling me about VO and what I can do to launch it. That is quite interesting.

Actually, command-f5 isn't necessary to use when doing a Mac installation.
Just put the disk in the drive and turn on the computer and wait a few
seconds then VoiceOver comes on automatically and starts asking
questions. On Thu, 22 Jul 2010, Chris Moore wrote:

I'm sure you will be happy with the switch, I now have 3 macs, and 0 PCs, and

Thanks everyone for your responses. I will check out those podcasts
everyone has recommended. I feel much better with the decision to
switch to mac now, especially after Kevin's experience as a graduate
student.
I'm sure I will have more questions as I go but thanks for the start.

Hi:
I'm a new Mac user, and will never go back to Windows. The things to keep in
mind. This isn't Windows, don't learn it as such. VO isn't Jaws, don't learn it
as such.
I can chat on Googletalk, I do it for work. I use Adium to IM. I use iWork for
all word processing, spreadsheet, and presenta
Hi Greg,
Adium spelled with a D as in David is accessible with VoiceOver. I think Marrie
or Mike Arrigo did a podcast on that. If you would like, I can do a minicast
for you taking through some of the Mac's built-in programs.

On the chat side, you can download Adium which will let you connect to MSN,
Yahoo, Google, Facebook etc or if you only need GoogleTalk then use the built
in iChat program. If you still get stuck with anything you can always install
Fusion or use boot camp to run Windows on your Mac.

You could also consider Nisus Writer Pro as a word processor, and iPal OCR from
Humanware is coming to the Mac in September to work in conjunction with their
iPal document camera.

HI there,
For someone who has just finished a Master's degree, I can honestly say that a
Mac was well worth the money and investment. I just wrote my 31-page Master's
thesis in Pages and had few issues with creating a table of contents,
pagination and document markup.

Hi Greg,
I'm Allison and I'd like to welcome you to the Mac Visionaries list. I just

Hi Greg,
There is a definite learning curve associated with moving from Windows to a
Mac. there are some podcasts at www.blindcooltech.com, done by Mike Arrigo
that may help you get a basic understanding of the Mac and voiceover. there are
definitely accessible chat applications, and surfing th
