It would appear that you can upgrade straight from SL to ML. At least, the Mac
store guy said I could, and the application shows up in my Mac app store.

Waiting for the new os is what I planned to do. But yesterday, I was at the Mac
store, and the guy at the help desk told me it was likely I'd have to be
upgraded to ML before I could get mavericks. I didn't think my Mac could even
take ML, but was told it could and that it should also be able to
