plan on doing a lot of these and I don't mind buying something.

If the track is for ringtone only it can be up to 39 seconds but for use as a
text alert then it must be 30 or less!

special version of .m4a for ring tones. Assuming Kerri wants to use a file as
a ring tone on her Iphone, this file cannot be more than 30 seconds in legth.

Why can the file not be more than 30 seconds in length, I have converted files
which is about an hour without problems. I have used both amadeus and itunes.
In my opinion ITunes is doing a great job here.

You can also use itunes.
In fact you can do it directly from the finder.
You will need to have itunes set correctly up in settings, and when things
should work.

Well, You could use Easy Music converter, or Amadeus Pro. Those cost however.
ON the other hand, you could use ITunes to do it. Just make sure that the file
you want to change is not more than 30 seconds in length.
