Harry, Just to make sure that everything is set up properly on your external, try the following: • Connect the external HD to your Mac. • Open Disk Utility. • Select your drive from the list on the left. Make sure that you select the drive itself, not the formatted partition. That is, select

Hi, Chris, Interestingly, after reformatting, it no longer asks for a password, so that doesn't appear to be the issue. I'm not sure. I will try a repair again. Harry On Jul 6, 2012, at 2:51 PM, Chris Blouch wrote: > I never used a password on a drive before. Did you ever try doing backups

I never used a password on a drive before. Did you ever try doing backups without a password? I used a WD MyBook 500GB to do backups for years before it became to small to use (after 4 years). So you would think WD would have a reasonably good chance of getting their newer devices right. I just

I know that I have an external drive that I bought back at the beginning of November. I successfully backed up to it once, as it was preformatted fo Mac, OSX extended, journaled. I set a password on it, but ever since that single back up, it has enver worked. I have tried reformatting it, and

Thanks. I have reformatted the darn thing many times in the Mac extended Journaling. It just won't work and my computer was the only one using it. I even tried formatting the drive in a few other formats. I really believe something is wrong with the drive or it is not truly mac compatible.

Not sure why you can't seem to backup to a local hard drive. Is it formatted as MacOS Extended (Journaled) ? It should just be a set and forget kind of thing. Just be sure you don't try to put anything else on the same drive since TM will use all available space. CB On 7/1/12 12:49 PM, Christ

Hi, The complaints stem from the components overheating within the enclosure. I did have an issue with the TC crashing but I did not lose any backup data as it was the logic board within the unit that crashed not the HD. We have a few newer TCs in our organization and have not encountered the
