If you don't mind the terminal, I find vim is a good replacement for TextEdit
if you don't need formatting. If you do need formatting, then of course there
is Pages.

It's still always worth a troubleshooting option. People place a lot more

I don't think it'd be the disk, as this is sometimes an unsaved document as
well. It happens heather it is saved or unsaved.
