It doesn’t affect the table names. Table names are assigned based on when they
are created and are, in any event, changeable. The table names are not based on
or dependant upon their position in the sheet layout area. You can have table 3
above table 1, etcetera.

I think I’ll just live with it. Evidently Numbers is auto arranging tables on
the canvas as it thinks it is needed. I don’t know how that would impact the
order of the table names in the sheet layout area though. Not important enough
for me to bother with now.

the size of the table through altering the width of the columns, numbers of
