I've had that problem. What works for me is to turn the phone off and then
turn it back on. In my case the email disappeared.

I have, and 99.9% of the time, it's still there.

Have you tried deleting mail from the appp switcher? I sometimes had this with
some gmail emails which wouldn't delete. ONce I closed the mail app, deleted it
from the app switcher, re opened mail, they were gone. it may not be the same
at all, but always worth a try.

I have the exact same issue, and was wondering the same thing. I can go to the
edit option, select it, and it continuously says "selected," but never deletes,
and I can never open it either, which is mind-boggling, so it just sits there
and I can do nothing with it.
