Hi Donna,
Have you got your old mac book in target disk mode?
I assume you are using some cable type be it network or thunderbolt or are you
using wifi?
The last time I did a migration it required the older machine to be in target
disk mode which is a case of turning the machine completely o

Hi,
Both methods will work fine. Whether you use Migration Assistant or an
up-to-date Time Machine backup. If you are setting up a new computer and you
have the up-to-date Time Machine backup, the new computer will end up exactly
the same as the old one including all files and settings. Simi
Hi Mark,
I may soon be having to use the migration assistant so I was very interested in
your experience of having done so. Can you outline the steps required to
connect thee two macs via ethernet cable? I have a notion that one of them has
to be started in a particular mode. Is this true?
Hello Lisette,
I have never made nor used any time machine backups so cannot speak to how it
works.
However, when I purchased my new Mac, a couple of months ago, I simply
connected it to my old Mac and the migration assistant worked perfectly, the
first time.
Since then I have used the Mi
Hi Tim,
To be honest, we never even got to that point. We decided to go the manual
route. We are mostly done anyway.

Yes, the MBP Retina. Apple recommends the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adaptor.
Simply purchasing an ethernet cable will not do the trick as there is no
ethernet port on the Retina models. As long as both the Windows machine and
MBP are part of the same network, the migration should be able to be
Then she has a Mac Book Pro Retina, and she'll still need the ethernet
adaptor and a cable.
So, did you go to the Apple store to buy your Mac?
