As far as jumping over menus, there is a new setting in the voice over
utility to automatically interact with items when tabbing to them, you
might try unchecking that. Gmail and google reader are useable, but
the design of these pages is very nonstandard. You need to press v o
command f5

you have mouse cursor follow VO cursor, text under the cursor gets

To avoid getting stuck in menus etc., go to VO Utilities, enter the
navigation category and set the mouse cursor to ignore the VO cursor.
This will make navigation in menus etc. work just fine. For now, you
